Glory, Finally !

Glory Salvador with her be-dimpled smile !
Glory took up Nursing @ St. Lukes Hospital.  As a Pediatric Nurse, she travelled to the United States in 1974 and stayed on to nurse in Little Rock, Arkansas. Briefly in the 1990's, Glory had also travelled and worked in Saudi Arabia for 6 years. On her return, she settled back in Little Rock and is still a resident of that state.  Currently retired, she divides her time to visit with her two children and her grandchildren in the colder state of New York.

to Current Class'62 Pres. Danny Lee

Note:  The article below was published originally on this blog June 20, 2009:
For those who remember very well the "antics" of Manny Sr in high school with a choice of just a 2x5 notebook and a broken pencil to write notes with (so they say), as well as to show off his befitting "macho" image to his barkada of old... Today, Manny enjoys the many blessings he had asked for in his children: an Accountant, a Nurse, a Doctor, an IT Consultant, a grand daughter and a triple load of blessings in the Reverend Father.

The Life of James

Life of James @ a glance based on excerpts from email exchange between Filipinas Florendo, Manny Natividad & James Laurico:

Hi, Abit! Am glad to hear from you again....and also glad to know I am not alone suffering from Osteo arthritis.... ha ha! Manny, pati sakak madi!!. Yes, I realize this disease is not curable. Would you have any suggestions on how to lessen the pain? Am now avoiding lots of foods which I find hard not to eat. Pork, beef, even chicken meat, and a lot of other foods I love, I now must not eat.

James - First Appearance on this blog
June 3, 2009
As to my 50 years, since we were classmates, I came here to Canada in1978. I experienced working in a factory and did odd jobs as well. I studied and later on became a Programmer here in Toronto and worked for several years in the 80's in the States...in New Jersey and in New York, as a contract Prog/Analyst of AT&T. I waited for sometime to retire and so, that is it here in Canada. I have never been back to the Phil since I left in 1978.

I have three kids, all doing well. My first, a daughter produces tv shows and she has here own company. My second, also a daughter is about to finish her doctorates degree, Ph. D. in Canadian Literature and we all expect her to be done this year. My youngest son is still in university taking up Aerospace Engineering.

Sharing English-Ilocano Dictionary

Determined to look for the word "Root-Goot" in the Ilocano Dictionary, it did not honor me with any translation, let alone the confirmation of such a word in the Ilocano dialect.   To save face, I am now sharing with you something shared by Evelyn Domingo Barker (Class'61) from It's More Fun in Ilocos Facebook page.

English-Ilocano Dictionary:
1. ANTIQUE - Kabsat ni mama
2. DECIPHER - Saan a dibotones
3. RAVINE - limnekken ti init
4. BEGOTTEN - panagimukat manen
5. WHO - Pagpasardeng iti nuang
6. ABOUT - Nauneg nga banag
7. STONE - Agsardeng kan
8. SHOW - Agbugaw ti manok
9. SHOCK - Saan nga sika
10. COTTON - Babassit nga agkarkarayam

    # 7 - Agsardeng kan.... ahhhhh!!!

Of Age and Confusion

Aging confuses my brain... or does confusion come with age ?... Whatever it is, my brain has slowed down in processing things.

I have always thought that root-goot is an Ilocano word.  I used the word root-goot while I was in a conversation last week. Last night, I suddenly thought "root-goot" is not Ilocano!  Now, my confusion starts. This morning, I googled the word root-goot to check if it is by any chance an English word.  First, second, third search of various spellings (root-gut, rut-goot, rut-gut) did not appear in any dictionary, be it Oxford, Webster, Urban etc.  My brain settled then and I convinced myself that root-goot is truly Ilocano. Next step, looking into an Ilocano dictionary!  But, before I did that, I decided to try one more time and googled "rotgut" and here it is, in the Urban dictionary!

[[rotgut  -  Not just cheap, but terrible liquor designed mostly to get you wasted and not much else. The term originated in the old west when many alcoholic beverages were designed purely to be easily afforded by anyone and their dog and to get the drinker hammered, often times, these cheap alcohols would make the drinker sick (due to the extremely low-quality of the ingredients). These days, the term just means something that's not much better in taste than rubbing alcohol and good for nothing more than getting you piss drunk when you're on a budget.]]

Happy to let you know that I used the word correctly in the Ilocano conversation, to mean exactly what it is I was trying to convey. "the term just means something that's not much better"

NB.  It is a good thing  "lo non parlo italiano"  and/or  "Je ne parle pas français ", otherwise my brain needs to be re-wired !   LOL !!!

NB2...English-Ilokano Dictionary: STONE - ag-sardeng kan idta ahh !!!

Spring Inspiration !

Did I shout out a few days ago that I finished/mailed my tax return before April 30th deadline?  Guess what ?!?, my cheque payment to Revenue Canada was cashed yesterday, May 1st   PRONTO !!!

Spring is here finally.  The sun is out and the birds tweeting, I get inspired easily.  These are a few things I did after calculating my brain out! LOL!!!

Can not pass sizing up the mega Strawberry with my thumb !

Final Product - Strawberry in Balsamic Vinegar !

Attempting to use left over caramel to give life
to the Creme Caramel aka Leche Flan !

Need to Clean-Up !!!

No Pine Nuts, substituted Macadamia. Amelia's Vittorio will say nah ah ahh !!
It tasted good, on crackers !!!

Tonight ... these green vegetable rosebuds
 added to my Vietnamese Pho

Friday ....  a miracle !!!
Shrimps in Avocado base (LOL)
Few things I discovered about this week's excercise:
I can not multi-task !!! The Creme caramel was slightly overdone (burnt) while I was taking a picture of the strawberry stewed in balsamic vinegar.  Patience is a virtue !!!  Candy Decor, near collapse - not dried to perfect hard candy consistency.  Cleaning up after any experiment is a &^%$#!.  One can not substitute ingredients (in pesto!), or hear of Vittorio's tirade!  Vietnamese Pho must be ordered/eaten in a Vietnamese restaurant.  Friday's Shrimps will be a dream !!!

Hope I get further inspired !!!
